Professor Miller: I was enamored of libertarian political philosophy in high school. In my first year at grad school, I decided I wanted to read more about utilitarianism. And so coming into reading Mill, really seeing him as kind of an opponent, he just won me over. He felt like Mill offered me more of a foundation for a lot of what I believed and some good reasons to give up the parts that he wasn't giving me foundations for.
