The north south question will of course, become the define tension of the united states and ultimately result in the civil war. The other great tension that threatened to undermine american unity was the divide between east and west. The interests of the rich coastal cities really did not aline with those of the inland farmers. And as we'll see in a minute, was sha's rebellion like really, really, not a line? But the treaty of paris guaranteed that the future of America lay to the west.
