Is There a Role of the Railroad Safety Regulator?

The Obama administration made a faithfully bad decision to narrow the definition of high hazard flammable trains. But it's not like the Republicans who are now making hay out of the situation have been proponents of tougher safety regulations. The DOT117 car rule, which can contain these kind of toxic loads without leaking them, is another piece of insanity that puts profit ahead of public health and public welfare.
