The Different Degrees of Distance in Different Languages

In English they're identical but they don't need to be. There are languages that distinguish them carefully. If you have one of those languages with 12 degrees of distance and appearance and non-appearance, you might make many fewer contrasts in the pronoun forms than you do in the adjective forms. You might have a different number of distinctions of proximity in one than you have any other.
