The Depression of the American Economy
Even by the government's own figures, the standard of living has been slipping for many years. But why hasn't it been worse? I think there are two reasons. One is that human beings are wired like squirrels in many ways. We like to gather nuts, which is to say we like to produce. So, even if it's not very productive, capital goes up every year. Technology certainly for the last 200 to something years has been compounding almost at the rate of Moore's law. And add that to the capital, and despite the stupidity of government, the wars or post-persications or taxation, their confiscations, their inflation, the economy's done better and better
