In many ways, india is the most positive democratic surprise in the second half of the twentieth century. So i think it has a lot to do with the whole cohort of early leaders - neru, patel, ambaker and camla demi chatopadya. And de we've had different crises. It's not been an easy road. When you're living through it, you think it's horrible and awful. But as a historian, you have a long view... You recognize that they've been crises before,.You've come through it, and you learn from your understanding of those earlier crises.
