In your book, you write that luckiness could be described as a creature of our imagination. It all seems to hinge on being able to imagine something worse. I think part of the reason we do this is that we're wired to think that the worst thing can happen. And there's a survival component to that. If you prepare yourself for the worst thing that can possibly happen, an then you're ready for that should it happen. And if it doesn't happen, you're still ok, because you were prepared.
