The book is about a family in Brooklyn who struggle to get by. It's mostly the mother and then the two kids, Francie, the daughter and nearly the son. Every day or maybe multiple times a day, mama would give the kids a cup of coffee. And neither of them really liked coffee, but they would swirl it around.
