The Risk of a Complex Instruction Set

Risk processors were a spin out of Acorn so arm originally stood for Acorn wrist machines because it was a risk processor and that then got renamed when Apple invested in the early 90s. Risk five only has 39 instructions the original arm only had about that numberso the computer the processor can only do simple things  and you have to write more complicated software to get the outcome you want. The chip uses less power because they are smaller and they are simpler famously the first arm chips the acorn got back they forgot to plug the power supply in and the tests worked and they were powered by their data and address lines.
