When I started writing this book, I thought it was going to be roughly a book about how we can kind of avoid conflict or take conflict out of our lives. The more I looked at it, the more I found that actually the bigger problem is not the toxic disagreements but avoiding disagreement because we find it so stressful. And when we avoid it, as you say, the disagreement doesn't go well. It just goes underground and becomes resentment and becomes passive aggression,.
