The Rise of the Progressive Evangelical Movement
The progressive evangelicals is part of what I'm doing there, saying that it was not always the case, that evangelical identity was closely aligned with contemporary or public and politics. One of the interesting things to me about that particular dynamic in contemporary evangelicalism is that there are a lot of folks who have no idea that there was a politically progressive evangelical movement which predated the rise of the religious right. So you get in the 60s and 70s groups of progressive, politically progressive evangelicals who say specifically things like "We fight poverty and we fight racism"
