Anna Brown is an associate professor at the Center for Cancer Biology and SA pathology. She says a significant proportion of people with myeloid malignancies will be carrying these deleterious germline variants. Increased use of genetic screening has produced an increased population of individuals who are caras but have not yet developed malignancy, she says. This presents challenges in terms of risk assessment as well as how we can design new interventions to actually prevent some of these individuals from progressing to a malignancy.
