Is There a Distinction Between Music and Religion?
As cultures differentiate there's a fragmentation of phenomena into their higher resolution subcomponents. I think in more traditional societies or more archaic societies the music is rarely divorced from the surrounding context. So we could say as a general rule maybe as you go back into the past then the number of things that is happening simultaneously along with music explicitly probably increases.
