Cody: There's a cool parallel analog that I randomly came across. Language as a communication system only makes sense in an environment where there is some base level of cooperation if most of what people did with language is lie. So it wouldn't be adaptive to learn it because like why would you want it just be lied to? And then the idea is that once you get going once you enter this linguistic trajectory, then it really starts with much simpler and more limited languages. It can reinforce it so language allows you to be even more cooperative. Then you would be otherwise.
