The Myth of the Dower Puritan

A lot of people assume that our confession is forbidding any fun on the Lord. Leland Reichen's book, Worldly Saints, undoes that myth. For example, do you know why Puritans wore black? Oh, tell me. Black cloth was more expensive than many other colors of cloth. And so by wearing black, it was sort of not an ostentatious display,. But it fit the upper middle class type of position that many of the Puritan merchants were in.
