The Worst Kind of Micromanager
The worst kind of micromanager is the one who says, I'm not a micromanager. Why are they micromanaging? Something is motivating this behavior. Is it fear? Are they afraid the team will make a mistake that they might be able to catch? That's what I would find out. Fear of death? Maybe. If you understand the risks that he's trying to avert, then maybe there's a better way to help him avert those risks.
