The Early Celebrations of Black Communities

Black communities in texas and elsewhere in the south pooled their resources to purchase land to create parks, right? To create public spaces where black folks could gather and celebrate gentinm and other events. So there was a solemn, uneducational, political component to the early celebrations. And then afterwards, people broke food and games and music, and black bands would perform. Black veterans were celebrated. It was an opportunity, really, to celebrate and recognize the strength and beauty of black communities.
