Is the Digital Euro a Good Idea?
I don't know any government officials who would be great smart contract programmers and in Canada, I'm sure that's the case in the EU as well at least to a certain extent. To base such a large part of the financial system in what I assume would be one person's hand seems to be a very dangerous game. The survey didn't ask for specific technical implementations and designs of the digital euro but one thing that was proposed by the digital euro association in Europe is that anonymous and private transactions and payments could for example be enabled up to a certain threshold. But we have to wait for at least another year or two in order to be able to make a better judgment on that.
