Germans so much centred everything around their feelings about it, and did so kind of openly living. There's nothing that is funny or satirical or satirizable about how far out of touch some of these manifestations of german emotional, big feelings can be. In that way, it sort of feels like almost a kind of mass hysteria at times. I think i've gotten used finally, but it's taken me awhile, because this is something i didn't experience as a child growing up in germany.
