The Decline of Nature in the United States
Just over 3% of the land and around 8% of the sea were properly protected for nature back in 2023. Just 14% of our rivers met good ecological status at the time. Our beaches were polluted too, not just with sewage pollution but with plastic pollution. The public was rising up against this. They linked these two crises and they wanted change and it was in 2023 that we saw an inflection point.
