What Are the Origins of Inequality?

The origins of inequality is a famous question in political philosophy. The author and his co-author wanted to make a contribution to that literature. They were already locked into questions about the origins of private property. But underlying it all is a very large assumption, which is that there was a time when none of these things existed. Why does any one think this is sensible question?
