The Role of Honesty in Pessimism
I think there's a role for honesty in all of this. And I'm very defensively pessimistic about public talks, which can be pretty good. So what you're doing is preparing yourself and thinking, if that does happen, what do I do under those circumstances? It used to be that being pessimistic about the future was just across the board - now it's more fine grained.
