The study looked at 56,000 extremely and very preterm infants cared at 465 US hospitals born between 2016 and 2020. In the cohort, 6.6% received care in a type A NICUs with restriction, 29% with in type A without ventilator restriction, 39% in type B and 24% in type C. So babies who were born in the higher acuity centers were more likely to get ventilation.
