No matter what essence anyone proposes, it's easily falsifiable. So if somebody puts forward, say, government versus freedom, well, then why was it George W. Bush considered to be on the far left of the political spectrum? He expanded the size of government more than any president in history or country in absolute terms. And then in percentage terms, more than any other president besides FDR.
