Donna Summer's Imperial Period
Once Upon a Time was summer's fifth consecutive gold album. Although it only peaked at number 26 on the album chart, it arguably kicked off the start of Donna's Imperial phase. What makes the apex of her reign as queen of disco fascinating is how much culture she brought under the umbrella of that moniker. She didn't try to escape disco. She sought to expand it.
