The Role of Exosomes in Gene Delivery

Exosomes are felt to be intercellular communicators. We were very interested in exosomes for a while as a method of gene delivery, and so we did a lot of work trying to load them with electroporation or different lipo-transfection methods. It worked wonderfully in vitro, but one of my patients who had mitochondrial disease just happened to have had a bone marrow transplant. So, I came over to the idea that, okay, if we can ever use exosomes as therapy, this person's a perfect embodiment.
