The Battle of the Corporations

After the Second World War, former empires were collapsing. The imperial powers and their financial sectors wanted to create a super national system whereby they could bypass rebellious peoples. They set about that task at Bretton Woods institutions in 1944. ISDS allows multinational corporations to sue states for enacting policies which infringe on their investor rights. This is enshrined in nearly all free trade agreements around the world.
