It took 100,000 workers 10 months to build what would become the Ictario Sindiniario. The first matches are but played even before it is opened. Meanwhile, despite the official backing given by FIFA and its members, it soon became clear that it was a real danger. That this first World Cup would be a global tournament in name only. With just two months to go until the opening ceremony, not a single European team had entered.
