The Legacy of the Middle Kingdom Pyramids

The three pyramids of Kufu, Kaffra and Mankari have a very strange similarity in their layout to the three stars of the belt of the constellation of Orion which has excited debate. Pyramid construction continued after Giza but it would never reach those dizzying heights again. Other Old Kingdom pyramids were typically built at Abusia and Sakara and were generally between 50 and 60 metres in height. The age of the pyramids was over. Next time we will be looking more closely at this emergence of a new power in the Egyptian lands again as we explore the story of the New Kingdom.
