Many scientists believe that negative emotions are functional when experienced in the right dosage. We don't want to rid ourselves of negativily, what we do want to figure out is how to prevent those small spikes of negative emotions from morping into chatter. The goal for her was no longer to identify ways of silencing her inner voice, of getting rid of it. She wanted to learn how to manage that inner voice more effectively.
