Is the Block Chain a Great Solution?

Block chain is an interesting technology, and maybe somebody will find a good use for it. But at some point did you need all the block chain from the shipping stuff srome 20 years ago? At what point does it make more sense to delet the old data and not keep it around? So i don't know that the block chain is a great solution for anything.
