Napoleon Crossing the Alps

In 1801, David painted Napoleon's portrait using neoclassical techniques and applying them to what will be Napoleon's empire style. In the bottom left corner, etched into the rock, are the names of the great leaders of men who crossed the Alps. The painting has warmer shades of yellow and orange, with cream and the blues having more of a military feel than royalty.
