The Fascination With Crime
The fascination with crime has been there and I don't think it's gonna go away anytime soon. Malcolm MacArthur had a substantial inheritance which he spent over 15 years or so apparently thinking it would last forever but it didn't. O'Connell in the book admits that he can in a sense understand that desire understand that urge to not be tied down in that way to some kind of paid employment to preserve your independence. That's a very seductive very elusive but very seductive idea for the intellectual set.
