Dying for a Taste by Sally Solari
Sally Solari is a fourth generation Italian part of one of the families that originally immigrated to Santa Cruz back in the 1890s. Sally ends up inheriting this restaurant and setting out to solve the murder because it was her sous chef who did the dastardly deed. There's a current running through all of the books, there are five of them now. The most recent one came out last August, it's called the fragrance of death. A lot of it's set on an artichoke farm, just north and town.
