The Future of Politics

I'm not going to go into politics with a capital P, because I know that's not what you are here to talk about. But I'd like to end by thinking about how the world has changed over the past decade or so in terms of the atmosphere of politics. The mood that seemed to be there in the 2000s, particularly the earlier 2000s, felt like petty nationalisms and tribalisms were behind us. And we were marching towards a glorious global, rational future. That appears to be, itself, a moment of history now. In many other places, there does feel like there's a return to more of a multipolar world where different groups are looking after their own interests
