Central banks established this connection with finance to empower themselves first in fighting inflation and then increasingly in conducting macroeconomic policy. With increasingly bloated financial systems it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between the actions of central banks what they do for finance and for financial markets. Central banks should only play one perhaps even smaller bit in reducing inflation in cooperation with finance ministries, he says.
