Is the Christmas Pickle a German Tradition?

The first child to find the pickle gets an extra present. It's a german tradition, but not many people in germany soon hav ever heard of it. I feel like this is something that americans in german like, maybe germans pranked America by hiding the pickle. My german axent is my favorite german.
