There's a demographic thing going on here. People turn to these defense mechanisms in order to subdue it. If we didn't have them, we would be absolutely paralyzed by the terror of death. And then you look at the studies and you're like, ah, now it's feeling less plausible. It's just the circles you hang out in where you can't imagine what kind of anti american s i could actually turn people off. That would be too negative.
