What Happened to the Chicano?
Chicano is still around. It specifically applies to mexican americans, and i think the people you would find using it to day live primarily in the southwest. I don't personally understand how people can get so fired up about naming preferences. On the one hand, we live in a country where everyone is allowed to define their own identity for themselves. Even for those who don't identify as latin x, it's meant to be inclusive.
