Golden Mole is a collection of 22 animals the only criteria for inclusion was that the animal or a sub-species of the animal being endangered but we live in a world of such peril. I wanted it to be a kind of almost like a bestiary a collection of unfamiliar creatures that would lay out some of the wildest and strangest wonders of the living world. And then also familiar creatures where it would offer something more like a sense that we can make the familiar strange because one of the things I write about quite a lot in the book is the necessity for wonder. It quotes G.K. Chesterton  the world will never starve for want of wonders but only for want of wonder
