The False Dichotomy of Climate and Development
The IMF is a very, very sensitive topic in much of the global south. It speaks to this discrepancy oftentimes in terms of the agendas and we're talking about reform. South Africa's finance minister pushed back on the narratives coming out of Europe and the United States about having the World Bank focus more on climate issues. A new Brookings paper shows that if the IMF and domestic economies that have the fiscal space to do so recovered from this situation with stimulus led programs that are linked to our climate and development goals then countries would be better off.
