Legal English Is Full of These Legal Doublets
Legal english is full of what we call doublets, these two words which mean the same thing being used together. There's a phrase called indemnify and hold harmless that means to compensate someone for a loss. It has got a french origin. And holds harmless has an english origin. People who are interested in using plain English should use one word where you can just use one.
