The First Punic War

In the year 265, Syracuse managed to attack and defeat them in the field of battle. And so they were defenseless and desperate, and they called a Carthage for help. The Roman Senate took its time in order to make its decision. There was actually some fierce debating going on,. But it knew that coming to the Mamertines' aid would be a declaration of war on Carthage.
