The Life and Times of Seneca
Dana's new book is about Seneca and a poetic translation of one of his great tragedies. He was born in 4 B.C. into an important Roman family, but they were integral parts of the Roman Empire. His father was Lucius Annias Seneca, the elder, and he was the most famous rhetorician in Rome. Dana: Anybody in the Renaissance who was writing tragedy was patterning themselves after Seneca's plays - which are very seriously no longer taught.
