Astralopithecines and Astralapithesines
Astralapithesines are believed to have been around from around five point six million years ago, right through to a round one point two million years ago. The apes that would survive this challenge would most likely be those with bipedal skill for two main reasons. One is because moving across the ground on two legs, as opposed to four legs, uses less energy. Secondly, having the freedom of the hands enables the ape to carry food back to its family. All of these animals must have links to human ancestry. It is not possible to say which ones, if any, are our direct ancestor, but they are all part of the story of human evolution.
