Margot Louise Stedman was born and raised in Australia and now lives in London. This book was published in 2012 and is Stedman's debut novel. There was a film adaptation that was released in September of 2016. A lot of these points that are the same in both works don't necessarily constitute plagiarism because there's an entire story around them, you know? And it doesn't seem like the rootcutter's story was the same even though these elements in it are the same.
