The Death of Sapho

Sappho wrote around 10,000 lines of poetry and four centuries after her death, the library of Alexandria catalogued nine volumes of her writing. She was most likely past middle age when she died and in at least one poem she complains about graying hair and creaky knees and bones. In later Hellenistic sources, there are mentions of a husband named Kirklos,. We'll get into Kirklos later. There's also considerable speculation on Sapho's social role.
