There are hundreds of wildfires burning across Canada right now. The smoke from those fires has drifted south and east into the United States. This is pretty unusual because it's affecting a part of the US that's unaccustomed to it. Ainsley Johnston, data journalist for the Economist, explains why this is so unusual. She says an atmospheric phenomenon called a heat dome prevents air flowing clockwise around the dome - sending smoke towards the East Coast.
