The essay originally argued that the colonists decided to declare their independence from britain was because they wanted to protect the institution of slavery. There was a fight and a little bit of editing over that claim maybe it wasn't the central claim but i remember reading it when it came out on i was on a talk show next to nicholhan and jones and i said really really it looked into that and bothered me very muchMaybe you're not going to get me into one black or white thinking the revolution was not launched or perpetuated i think with a major motivation of uh of preventing the liberation of enslaved people.
