The Origins of This Quote

The quote is made up, but it comes in a form from an obscure book on the schooling system of ancient Greece. Kenneth John Freeman was a student at Cambridge University in their Bachelor of Arts program at the beginning of last century. He wanted to take up a fellowship at Trinity College and to gain that position he needed to produce some original work. But sadly mr. Freeman wrote an essay on the topic of ancient Greek education.
